There are many community organisations working in Islington to improve the life chances of Black and Minority ethnic pupils. Many operate on a voluntary basis and include Saturday schools, after school clubs and …..

My job is to work with Mother Tongue and Supplementary Schools to improve the quality of their provision.

EMAS currently commissions and quality-controls more than 20 different community organisations to run extra educational support projects for children and to help these organisations to forge stronger links with schools.

In addition we provide free in-house and central training for Mother Tongue and Supplementary School teachers and managers to improve the quality of provision and help them to raise attainment.

We also organise conferences, focus groups and consultation events bringing parents, community groups and teaching professionals together. In this way we aim to understand more about the needs of the communities we serve and improve the quality of provision in schools.
