Catharine Driver (Secondary EMAS Consultant)

Catharine Driver

Catharine began her teaching career with VSO in Papua New Guinea. She then spent 8 years as an EAL teacher in Newham and Luton, before taking up a KS3 training and development post with Enfield’s Ethnic Minority achievement service. For the last 9 years Catharine has worked in Camden, first as an EMA secondary adviser, and most recently as Head of Ethnic Minority Achievement in a multilingual comprehensive where she managed a large team of EAL teachers and bilingual staff and worked in partnership with most subjects.

Although Catharine is a history graduate, her current professional interests now centre around the development of language and literacy in Maths and Science. She has created and presented curriculum materials, workshops and training courses for secondary teachers in this area. She is also interested in the use of data to raise achievement of ethnic minority at LA, school and departmental level. Catharine has recently completed a MA in Applied Linguistics, and she is also an accredited trainer for ESL in the Mainstream. She is also an active committee member of the National Association for Language Development in the Curriculum [NALDIC] and contributes regularly to journals and conferences.
